Maintain quality assurance of supplied components and materials within TRUMPF Photonic's state
of the art semiconductor laser operations by oversight of material qualifrcation, first artlcle
inspection, and incoming inspection activities.

Roles and Responsibilities

Drive the Material Qualification Process: In the event of a new primary or secondary supplier, a new or revised material/component design, or a change in production conditions relating to an existing supplier, the Quality Engineer shall initiate and coordinate the Material Qualification Process with inputs from the responsible organizational functions.
Responsible for the execution of the Material Qualification Plan and documentation of results in the First Article Inspection Report. This function requires clear communication, coordination with the Purchasing, R&D and Engineering departments and prioritization of activities so that schedule commitments are met.
Employ appropriate Acceptance Sampling Protocol (ANSI/ASQC 21.4) to define the FAl lot size and agree on PO quantity with Purchasing.
Perform and train an operator to perform the following verification activities to ensure conformity to the referenced drawing and specifications: Visual inspection (i.e, using microscope with video micrometer and camera) Dimensional Verification using appropriate metrology tools such as: calipers, micrometer (various), digital neight gauge, thread and plug gauges, etc Analysis of physical characteristics such as surface roughness (interferometer); flatness; parallelism; metal deposition thickness (XRF) Conducting special tests such as Hi-Pot Voltage Test, Electrical Continuity, Leak Testing, etc.
Organization of qualification results and data into FAl report. Communicate results of FAl report with Supplier, MP and Purchasing. Review appropriate actions with Supplier to achieve qualification Create Incoming Inspection Plans and Protocol in SAP (or MES system) based on risk profile criticality of component and corresponding characteristics or frequency of occurrence. Define inspection sampling plans as appropriate to ensure quality of received lots.
Supplier-related Quality Nonconformances: for materials that are disovered to be nonconforming either at Incoming Inspection or in Production, the Quality Engineer shall confirm the nonconformance and provide the measurement data to confirm the nonconformance as evidence to the supplier. The data shall be provided to the QR for inclusion in the RF Notification sent to the Supplier.
Ensure Incoming Inspection is conducted by inspection technician in accordance with defined protocol and inspection records retained as required.
Interface with external and internal suppliers regarding product quality issues. Coordiante the evaluation of Corrective Action Requests that have been submitted in response to RF Notifcations, communicate with involved departments and vendors.
Conduct statistical analyses using Minitab or Jmp software packages to identify quality trends, qualify measurement systems, production processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
Utilize 8D approach to identify root cause and corrective and preventive actions for quality issues resulting from supplier quality nonconformances.
Conduct external vendor audits, document audit reports, follow up on audit measures and qualify vendors.
Coordinate the calibration of measurement and test equipment used in Incoming Inspection.
Conduct training of employees on TRUMPF Quality Standard, technical guidelines/techniques, QA- Procedures Experience

Education and Experience

3 years experience in a Quality Assurance / Control Department in the manufacturing industry. Must be familiar with drawings, schematics, parts lists and knowledge of inspection techniques and metrology. Good inter-personal and effective communication skills. Advanced Excel skills. Experience with SAP ERP software and its QM module. ln-depth knowledge of Statistical Process Control and statistical software programs (i.e. Minitab and JMP) and its applications. Must be able to effectively work independently and in a team environment with minimal supervision. Bachelor's degree required in industrial, Manufacturing or Quality Engineering or suitable combination of education and work experience required. Advanced degree preferred.
