Summary of the Position :
The Sr. Supplier Quality & Food Safety Specialist will work with cross functional teams to provide support for the supplier quality management system at JBSS for the receipt and qualification of nuts and ingredients.
Leads Food Safety Risk assessments and ingredient qualification with a cross functional team. Identifies key supplier quality food safety controls (e.g. validations, Preventive Controls/CCPs), documents and works with external resources for compliance testing.
Maintains/monitors global COA receiving quality database for all JBSS plants, partners with Procurement/plants to resolve document issues (e.g. missing COA, damaged items). Issues alert to Quality Systems Managers for Out of Specification items, unapproved suppliers, and spot purchases.
Requests/reviews/approves supplier's documentation (third party audits, environmental monitoring programs, supply chain validation, etc.). Develops technical expertise to drive CI with suppliers for identified gaps in documentation and/or programs. Recommends actions relating to supplier qualification/de-qualification. Drives for satisfactory corrective actions and closure of supplier non-conformances.
Acts as Quality lead contact for multiple cross-functional project teams. Provides guidance relating to quality and food safety for corporate and plant quality on innovation projects. Provides coaching and guidance to Procurement/R&D concerning new ingredients.
Leads, plans, and executes process validations for all innovation items. Will assist (when necessary) on existing re-validations.
Supports the generation of ingredient specifications by recommending and approving microbiological and quality requirements.
Serves as an active member and supports the quality leadership team from a Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) readiness standpoint. Supports FSMA related metrics analysis and reporting needs. Responsible for food fraud policy updates, horizon scanning and mitigation assessment work. Supports Food Safety Culture efforts.
Education, Experience, and Knowledge :
Bachelor's Degree (microbiology preferred) or equivalent work experience
Technical knowledge of quality systems and food safety; knowledge of relevant government regulations and certification criteria (preferred)
Minimum 3 years' experience working in the food industry within quality
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations :
Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) for human food Certification (preferred)
Safe Quality Food (SQF), Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) training, HACCP training (preferred)
Food fraud training (preferred)
Skills and Competencies :
Excellent verbal / written communication skills; computer and statistical skills.
Strong computer skills in Microsoft office applications, TraceGains
Experience with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), HACCP/Food Safety Plans, allergens, Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs); ISO, GFSI, FSMA
Ability to interpret analytical results
Work well in cross functional teams (Procurement, Tech Services, R&D, plant quality, etc.)
